Jewish Voice for Peace held its largest-ever national member meeting in Baltimore from April 31 through May 4, with more than 2,000 attending. We feature the address of Democratic Congressmember Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, the only Palestinian American member of Congress, who addressed the conference as it began. “Why is it that our government always has enough money for bombs, to bomb people, to kill people, but never seems to have money to provide people with healthcare, with housing, enough food for their families?” Tlaib asked in her address.

1. The U.S. spends more on health care than any other nation but a large portion of it is for profits. Private for profit

hospitals, for profit health insurance and equity owned medical practices, clinics and urgent care facilities. We don't pay just for health care we have to pay enough to provide a layer of profit at every level of care and I haven't even mentioned pharmaceutical companies.
The pharmaceutical companies that benefit from tax supported research that is then immediately handed over to our for profit only pharmaceutical companies.
