I believe he thinks excursion means the same thing as incursion. So when his military advisors speak to him about making an incursion into Iran to accomplish a mission, he repeats it incorrectly as the word, excursion. And no one risks correcting his mistaken use of the term. And he becomes a joke on the world stage by speaking of warfare as a kind of day trip one takes on a vacation.
