at some time before the incident.

The ship is now stateless, not protected by international law or permitted to navigate on high seas or enter ports.

Shit like this doesn't just happen for hauling humanitarian aid or inviting Greta Thunberg on board... Ok, I am not sure of the latter: there is no precedent in international law for that.
