baptized in one of those dunking pools in the church. He was told he could stay at home only until he graduated from high school, so he was on his own for a long time before he met and married my mother. Her mother was something called a "theosophist." It was some merging of Christianity and a religion of India, probably as a result of Britain's imperialism in that country. My grandmother did a wicked impression of Billy Graham, a young preacher in Texas at the time.
