In my job as a case manager I visited a young woman on Medicaid, she was in tears with worry that she would have to find a job fast. She had 2 autistic sons in grade school. Where do you find a job with transportation and flexible scheduling so you can be home when the kids get out of school or available if one of them needs you? That won’t put you over income for Medicaid?
I would vote for my state to set up a program that provides access to work and job training, but telling people ‘get a job or else’ is just cruel. Not to mention, my mother wasn’t going to jump out of her nursing home bed and apply at Walmart. Also, a lot of people on Medicaid are already working, just under income.
