(32,547 posts)Manual transmission. Bought it in 1998 from a private party when we were living in Lincoln, NE. My favorite memory of driving that car was at Christmas a year or two later. There was a street near our neighborhood where every house was lit for Christmas and speakers were set up playing Christmas music blasting from the median . We all ( my husband and our two sons) bundled up, put the top down, and I drove us up and down the street, as though we were having a sleigh ride. It was magical.
When we moved in 2000 from Lincoln to Chapel Hill, NC, I drove that car, with my oldest son riding shot gun and our two cats, Mouse and Simba, in their carriers on a mat in the back seat, following my husband, who was driving his Ford Explorer, with our youngest son riding shot gun and our dog, Tanya, in the back seat.
I taught my oldest son to drive in that car. We used to go down to the University Mall parking lot on a Sunday morning to let him practice getting used to shifting gears before I would let him drive on the streets.
He--at 38-- still drives a manual transmission and he races autocross for fun.
I loved that car!
