This year, we got it right. It is wonderful to see a tree that is in full bloom and in noon sunlight. We combine the hike with a stop at the Newark Cathedral basilica. This cathedral, to me, is more pleasing than St. Patrick's. Across the street from the cathedral is a section of the park that is elevated and shows parts of Manhattan.

Also, the area has adequate free, on street parking.
