Seattle's University Book Store inks agreement with Barnes & Noble [View all]

The University Book Store in Seattle's University District is partnering with Barnes & Noble Inc. in a first-of-its-kind agreement for the national bookstore chain.

Beginning in mid-June, Barnes & Noble will be running the venerable bookstore's trade books department, store CEO Trevor Peterson told the Business Journal. (Trade books are intended for the general public, as opposed to textbooks or other academic books.)

This is the first time Barnes & Noble has entered into this type of agreement, Peterson said. A separate company, Barnes & Noble College, has operated school bookstores for decades, but Barnes & Noble spun off the division in 2015.

"I approached Barnes & Noble about two and half years ago with this idea," Peterson said. "They were very intrigued, but they have never done anything like this before."
