1. just got back after taking the California Zephyr from Oakland to Chicago

It was a disaster.

I had been looking forward to this trip for some time and had gotten a competitive price on a ticket at the last minute.

When we got past Sacramento we got stopped by a stalled Union Pacific train for 4 hours.

When we finally got moving again, we had to let the west bound Zephyr go by first. At that point they were 8 hours behind. So we missed viewing the Donner Pass during the day lite.

We could have made up some of the lost time in Utah but Union Pacific but a speed limit on the rails because of the heat. We got further behind. And we missed seeing the Rocky Mountains during daylight.

Sent 2 emails and text messages to Amtrak while we were in Iowa but got no reply.

Got into Chicago 6 1/2 hours late. Missed my last bus home that night from Union Station, so it was either a Uber or a hotel. I stayed at the Hampton because I was mad and tired and wanted a shower.

I will give Amtrak some props. People having onward travel on Amtrak that they missed were put up at a hotel overnight and where they would be helped the next morning. Sense I was on a commercial bus I was out of luck.
