That is a side effect of long acting insulin. Check with your doctor, maybe a blood glucose sensor and short acting insulin might be better. Your case is currently severe if they went to that. Your condition is reversible usually but it will take discipline and effort. As a type 2 you need to get your health in order. One tip I can offer is to start taking Melatonin before sleep, that can up-regulate the insulin receptors and lower the amount you need gradually. Increase the amount of antioxidants in your diet. You also need to increase your vegetable intake and eat white beans, those are resistant starches and they help lower glucose spikes. Also unsaturated fats help and consuming less animal protein during your recovery will help greatly. Don't view these changes are forever but push hard while you get your health back and once you are doing better you can lighten up and see what can work while staying healthy.
