5. The status of cannabis is Canada is unclear to me, as well

When I've looked at different sites related to Canadian law. However, MedReleaf is a 50k sq ft facility dedicated to growing cannabis for medical use. It gets inspected by the Health Dept., it hires people from Mt.Sinai Hospital Group... it's above ground.

I don't know if this is an exception for mmj, or for Ontario - at one point a judge said all mj laws in Ontario were unconstitutional, then lawyers asked for extensions to write provisions... in 2013, an appeals court said mj was still illegal, but at the moment, doctors can exempt patients from marijuana laws, but doctors are reluctant to recommend mj under current circumstances.

So, how MedReleaf gets to grow thousands of plants under govt. inspection is one of those things someone else will have to answer, I suppose.

I know Canada already allows Sativex for their pharmacies, and Sativex cannabis is grown in the UK - in an "undisclosed location" for GW Pharmaceuticals. It's cannabis spray used for MS.

But it appears marijuana is illegal - but it also appears the enforcement of such law is lowest priority for law enforcement - which still doesn't answer the question of why MedReleaf gets to grow thousands of cannabis plants, unless it's because they are exporting the cannabis to Israel.
