Awkward: Trump’s new Catholic liaison said he would bring ‘further degradation to our culture’

The new “chief liaison” for Catholic outreach for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign was part of an open letter ripping the real estate magnate’s presidential campaign, Right Wing Watch reported.

Earlier this year, National Catholic Prayer Breakfast founder Joseph Cella was listed among a group of Catholic leaders who signed a National Review op-ed entitled “Appeal to our fellow Catholics,” which urged conservative members of their faith to reject Trump’s candidacy and support “a genuinely reformist candidate.”

“Mr. Trump’s record and his campaign show us no promise of greatness; they promise only the further degradation of our politics and our culture,” the op-ed by Robert George and George Weigel stated.

The column went so far as to argue that the reality show host was “manifestly unfit” to be president.
