West last night for the 8th spot on the all-time scoring list. The 3-point shot wasn't adopted by the NBA until 1979 after West retired. So it seems a little unfair to those in the pre-3-point era for their scoring records be surpassed by players who've had the advantage of the 3-point shot all their careers.

Maybe the record should be for made baskets instead of total points as the 3-point shot is a 50% advantage in points? Or maybe an asterisk should be added in the record books?

And then there are players like Downtown Freddie Brown, famous for making long distance shots, hence his nickname, who played half his career before the advent of the 3-pointer and the second half with the 3.

I don't know what the solution is? Any thoughts?
